Abstract
211,887. Soc. d'Exploitation des ProcÚdÚs Hidoux. Feb. 24, 1923, [Convention date]. Continuous discharge apparatus, rotary.-In a combined drying and grinding apparatus for clay and like plastic materials the grinding drum is carried on the end of a rotary drying-cylinder and disposed in a separate compartment the disintegrated clay being separated by means of a sieve forming the periphery of the grinding-drum from the larger fragments which are retained in contact with the drying-medium. The wet clay is charged through a hopper 10, Fig. 1, into an enclosed rotary cylinder 1, the discharge end of the cylinder being connected to a ball mill having a perforated casing through which the ground clay passes into the hopper 20. The larger fragments of undried clay remain in the perforated casing in contact with the drying-medium which is withdrawn by a fan from the chamber enclosing the mill and discharged into the upper part of the casing surrounding the cylinder in which any dust carried off by the medium is deposited. The drying-medium may consist of waste gases from steam boilers, or separate gas or oil burners &c. may be used. In the event of the mill becoming overloaded, the excess material, together with ungrindable bodies, can pass over a shoot 19 and through a counter-weighted door 18 the movement of which operates an alarm.
