Abstract

674,748. Confining dust on generation. MURAD, W. H. Oct. 10, 1950 [July 11, 1949], No. 18257/49. Class 8 (ii) A machine tool which produces dust during its operation comprises a tool carrying shaft 13 driven by a motor 11 and having an air extraction fan 14 mounted thereon which draws air carrying the work dust into a casing 10 within which means are provided for extracting the dust from the air before the latter passes to the fan. A twin disc pedestal grinding machine has the dust removed from each of the work surfaces by the fan which draws the air through a cowling 20 and a bag filter 30. The dust is deposited in a remevable tray 31 and the clean air passing through the filter is circulated through the motor casing 12, for cooling purposes, and is exhausted through an aperture 17 The cowling is pivoted at 21 and may be swung away from the grindstone to facilitate the removal of the latter.
