Abstract
848,564. Confining dust generated by grinding wheels. HOLMAN BROS. Ltd. Dec. 6, 1957 [Nov. 8, 1956], No. 34211/56. Class 8(2). A suction duct 21 through which is drawn dust generated by a grinding wheel 10 when its periphery engages a workpiece 13 is formed with at least one plate 25 of aerofoil section, the leading and trailing edges 28, 29 of which provide suction mouths 30, 34 whereby a streamlined flow of dust-laden air is introduced through said mouths and over the surface of the plate. The suction mouth 34 is also bounded by the leading edge 33 of a second aerofoil plate 27 the trailing edge 35 of which forms with a vertical back plate 37 of the duct 21 a third suction mouth 38. A fourth suction mouth 50 is bounded by the trailing edge of an inclined plate 26 adjacent the wheel 10 and a fifth suction mouth 48 is bounded by the edge of a frame 45 and an upwardly inclined flange 42 of the duct 21. The plates 25, 26, 27 are of aluminium and are detachably secured to the sides of the duct 21. The wheel has a guard 15 carried by a loom 12 which also carries a mounting sleeve 53 in which is adjustably secured a rod 52 supporting the exhaust portion 23 of the duct 21.
