Abstract
780,761. Confining dust generated by grinding wheels. HOLMAN BROS., Ltd. Dec. 20, 1955 [Dec. 20, 1954], No. 36747/54. Class 8(2). A surface grinding wheel 1 has a duct 11 connected to a suction coupling 12 and sturounding at least the greater part of the peripheral edge of the wheel and has a plurality of mouths 14, 14<SP>1</SP>, 14<SP>11</SP> open to said edge. Uniform suction is attained by grading the mouth areas according to the length of ducting 11 connecting them to the coupling 12. As shown, the duct, which is integral with a guard 3, is of rectangular section and the mouths are provided in the corner bounded by the side facing the wheel periphery and that parallel to the working face of the wheel 1. Dust in the vicinity of an uncovered portion 16 of the wheel periphery is drawn through a mouth 20 in an end face 19 of the duct 11. In a modification the duct 11 is located outside the guard 3 and in a further modification the external duct is triangular in cross-section and has the mouths formed along an edge.
