Abstract

488,510. Variable-speed and reversing gearing. WILLIAMSON, C. M., and WILLIAMSON MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. March 19, 1937, No. 8160. [Class 80 (ii)] In a reversible variable-speed friction drive, slipping is automatically effected at a certain speed by a centrifugal device separating the discs 1, 2 against the action of springs 6, 7. The device comprises a ring weight 8 pivoted at 9 and connected to the discs 1, 2 by links 10, 11. The driver 12 is carried by a motor 13 pivoted at 14 or slidable to set the driver in the determined position in engagement with either disc 1 or 2, according to the direction of drive desired. Alternatively, the shaft 3 may be moved axially, relative to the driver.
