Abstract

485,499. Wrapping machines. FORGROVE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and GROVER, F. March 2, 1937, No. 6195. [Class 94 (i)] Relates to mechanism for driving the twist grippers of wrapping-machines such as are described in Specifications 396,212 and 442,803. The jaws 12 are driven by gearing 19, 20 and shaft 21 so as to have a speed varying from a maximum to nil. The main driving shaft 18 carries a crank to which is fixed a driving gear wheel 23, a pin 24 coaxial with which carries a link 25 having a floating spindle 26 at the other end. The spindle carries an intermediate gear 27 and the end of a link 28 pivoted at its upper end to the driven shaft 21. This shaft carries a gear wheel 29 meshing with the intermediate gear 27. As the driving shaft 18 rotates in a clockwise direction, Fig. 3, the gear 23 is carried bodily round, and imparts anticlockwise rotation to the intermediate gear 27 and causes the floating spindle to oscillate in an arc about the driven shaft 21. This causes a dwell in the rotation of the driven shaft sufficient for the introduction of the article and wrapper between the jaws, which are opened and closed at the appropriate times by a rack-rod 16 as described in Specification 442,803. The dimensions of the parts may be varied to obtain a slight reverse movement of the driven shaft.
