552,348. Gear-cutting. CRAVEN BROS. (MANCHESTER), Ltd., and OWEN, W. Feb. 7, 1942, No. 1656. [Class 83 (iii)] A gear hobbing machine has selectivelyoperable direct and indirect drives to the table a the indirect drive including " creep mechanism for the spiral distribution of errors in the master worm and worm wheel gearing. For the direct drive, a shaft k drives through worm gearing i<SP>1</SP>, a worm g engaging a worm wheel b secured to the table. The " creep" drive is also derived from shaft k through worm gearing h<SP>1</SP> shaft h, worm gearing f, e and a toothed wheel integral with a spur gear d engaging an internal gear c formed on the worm wheel b. The drives, are brought selectively into operation by movement of a housing j carrying the shafts h, i about the axis of shaft k.
