Abstract

409,013. Wrapping-machines. ROSE, A. G., and ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd., Albion Works, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. Oct. 22, 1932, No. 29565. [Class 94 (i).] In a machine for twisting the projecting ends of a wrapper folded around a caramel or other article, the grippers are rotated at a speed varying cyclically and continuously between zero and a high maximum value. The shaft 16 which drives the grippers 10 through gearwheels 14, 15 is preferably coupled to a continuously-driven shaft 21 through Geneva gearing comprising four arms 22 on the shaft 21 carrying rollers 23 which are adapted to engage in slotted arms 24 on the shaft 16. Alternatively the shafts may be-coupled through non-circular gear-wheels. The grippers are closed upon the ends of the wrapper by mechanism not shown while the speed of rotation is low ; the speed then increases rapidly to its maximum and falls again, the grippers re-opening when the previous low value is reached. Means may be provided for moving the grippers inwardly during the twisting operation to compensate for the reduction in length of the wrapper. Specification 150,076, [Class 94 (i)], is referred to.
