Abstract

645,064. Vibratory mechanism. SMITH ENGINEERING WORKS. Sept. 9, 1947, No. 24755. Convention date, Jan. 10, 1944. [Class 80(iv)] [Also in Group II] A mechanism for effecting a smooth starting and stopping of the motion of a vibratory apparatus such as a gyratory or reciprocating screen, [see Group II], comprises a shaft 15 rotatably journaled on the screen for normal relatively high speed rotation and a gyratory rotor consisting in a pair of weights 32 having a common pivotal axis 33 disposed eccentrically of the shaft axis and being located to have their respective centres of gravity disposed on substantially diametrically opposite sides of the central longitudinal axis of the shaft 15 when at rest and, at normal speed, being movable independently of each other to symmetric positions with respect to the plane which contains the pivotal axis 33 of the weights and the central axis of the shaft. The weights 32 may be in juxtaposed position relative to each other at normal speeds and lie in the same plane, or as shown, the weights may be in different planes so that at high speeds they may overlap as indicated by the broken lines.
