Class 80 (2) [Also in Group XXX] A variable speed gear, for rotating the main shaft 19 of a bin discharger for cereals &c. comprises a driving shaft 3 on which is a variable-throw driving head, consisting of a crosshead guide 6 mounted on a support plate 5 and a slidable eccentric pin 7 the eccentricity of which can be varied by means of a lead-screw 8 mounted in the cross-head guide, and a pair of connecting rods 9, 10 and ratchet mechanisms 15, 16 arranged so that they drive the said main shaft in the same direction. The ratchet mechanisms are of the roller type and are placed one beside the other on the main shaft.
