Abstract

191,339. Marks, E. C. R., (International Cigar Machinery Co.). July 4, 1922. Cigar-making machines.-The speed of the bunch-rotating rolls may be varied to produce an even wrapping of cigar-bunches of different contours. A shaft 15 is driven through pinions 10, 12, 14 from a shaft 9 and has pinions 16, 21 fast and loose respectively on it. The pinions 16, 21 engage respectively pinions 17, 20 connected together and mounted loosely on a spindle 18 carried in a U-shaped bracket 19 pivoted to the shaft 15. The pinion 21 drives through gearing 22, 24 a pinion 27 on the main roll shaft and pinions 40 drive subsidiary rolls which are rocked about centres 37 to engage or disengage the bunch by cam-actuated links 41 connected to bell-cranks 36. The bracket 19 is held by a spring 42 and is rocked about the shaft 15 by a link 44 pivoted to a link 46, thus causing an acceleration or retardation in the speed of rotation of the rolls. The link 46 is actuated through bevel-gearing 48, 49 by a crank 51 having a cam bowl 52 engaging a cam track on a drum 61. The, cam track is formed by two flexible steel rings 54 gripped in slots 55 formed in blocks 56, the position of which may be laterally adjusted by screws 59 to vary the shape of the cam track.
