Tamping-machines.-In a tamping-machine for non-circular pipes, the rammer 1 is supported by a frame 5 mounted on wheels 6 running on rails 7 and is caused to follow the outline of the mould 23 by a roller 9 on the frame held by a weight 10 or spring against an horizontal cam 12, driven in the same direction, and at the same speed as the mould. The mould and cam are driven through a shaft 20 and bevel-gearing 14, 25 from the main shaft 21 which also drives a crank 2. operating the rammer 1, through belts passing over pulleys carried by lattice girders 17, 18 pivoted together and balanced by a weight 19.
