Abstract

226,026. Cope, J. A., and Cope Bros. & Co., Ltd. Dec. 4, 1923. Tobacco. - In a machine for the manufacture of twist or roll tobacco, left-hand portions of tobacco leaves are fed face downwards from a table on the right-hand side of the machine to guide-rolls rotating in a clockwise direction. Adjustable guide-rolls 3 are driven by gear wheels 4 and are acted on by fixed cams 5 to give a sliding motion. The twist passes through a laterally-moving guard 7 and is then carried over a bobbin 8 rotating in a yoke 9 which is rotated in an anti-clockwise direction through a clutch and driving pulley 10. A brake 13, operated by a hand-wheel 12, exerts pressure on a loosely-mounted gear-wheel 14 to reduce its speed and thus vary the speed of the bobbin 8. Leaf springs exert pressure on the rolls 3.
