Abstract
23,473. Milne, S. Dec. 3. Embossing.-A machine for linenizing paper or the like comprises a pair of cloth-covered rolls and one or more heated drying-rolls and calendering - rolls in a vertical framing, each class of rolls being separately driven and out of contact with the others. The paper 5 from a roll 6 is passed between a pair of driven cloth-covered rolls 1, 1<a>, which may be heated, thence round heated drying-rolls 8, and finally between calendering-rolls 9, 10 to the winding- roll 7. The calendering operation may be omitted. The rolls 8, which are separate from the rolls 1, 1<a> and from the rolls 9, 10, may be driven from the shaft of the roll 9 by a belt and cone pulleys, while the roll 9 may be driven by a belt and cone pulleys from the shaft of the roll 1. Pressure may be applied to the rolls 1, 1<a> by a weighted lever 3, and to the calendering-rolls by a weighted lever 14.
