Roller mills.-Relates to roller mills for grinding or crushing chocolate &c. and of the type comprising three rolls running at different speeds with a cam on the shaft of the outside roll that runs at the slowest speed to transmit a reciprocating axial movement to the intermediate roll and to a scraper in contact with the other outside roll. The reciprocating motion is transmitted from the cam 19 to the intermediate roll 4 and also to the scraper 15 by means of a single lever 18 pivoted to the frame of the machine. As shown the roll 4 is driven through gearing 6, 7 from the driving-shaft, while the outside roll 5 is driven at a higher speed than the roll 4 by gearing 8, 10 from the wheel 7, and the other outside roll 3 is driven at a lower speed than the roll 4 by gearing 9, 11, 12 from the wheel 7. The chocolate &c. is fed between the rolls 3, 4 from a hopper 13, and is removed from the roller 5 by the stripper 15 which is mounted on a rotatable rod 14 and pressed against the roll 5 by a bar 16. A disc 20 mounted on the lever 18 pivoted on a vertical axis 17 and extending beneath the roll 3 engages in a cam-groove in a collar 19 on the shaft of the roll 3. A roller 22 on the lever 18 engages in a grooved collar 21 on the shaft of the roll 4, and the stripper-rod 14 passes loosely through the lever 18 and is provided on either side of the latter with a driving-pin 23.
