Abstract
484,458. Electromagnetic relays. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 17, 1937, No. 31667. Convention date, Nov. 17, 1936. [Class 38 (v)] Simultaneous operation of contacts s, s<1> from the position shown, causes a steady current to flow through the working winding AI of the relay and an " opposition " current, produced by the discharge of the condenser C and ever diminishing, to fiow through the auxiliary winding AII. The effects of the two currents are, to begin with, equal and opposite but after a time interval, determined by the values of the capacity C and the resistance W, the working winding AI sufficiently overpowers the winding AII to operate the relay contacts. The relay contacts may include a contact a which opens before the others and serves, by completely breaking the current through the winding All, to cause a quick decisive operation of the remaining contacts.
