Abstract
515,414. Electromagnetic relays. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd.. March 1, 1938, No. 6428. Void. Convention date, March 2, 1937. [Class 38 (v)] When a relay 3 operates, a previcusly short-circuited regulable resistance 4 is Inserted in series with it, the value of the resistance being so chosen that the relay will "release" at substantially the same voltage or current at which it " picked up." The relay possesses contacts 5 which normally short-circuit the resistance 4 and any number of other contacts such as 6 for controlling other circuits. A condenser 7, which may be varied simultaneously with the varying of the resistance 4, is also connected in parallel with the coil 3 and serves momentarily to balance the loss of current through the coil 3 when the relay operates and the resistance 4 is first inserted, thus assuring reliable operation of the relay.
