[Also in Group XXXV] In an A.C. relay the current through the solenoid is reduced when the armature is fully attracted by inserting a capacitor in series with the solenoid by opening switch contacts which normally shunt the capacitor. The contacts may be the auxiliary contacts of the relay or the contacts of a separate relay having its winding in series with the solenoid. Specification 877,036 is referred to.
