Abstract
1,100,881. Magnetic reed relays. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 9 Dec., 1964 [10 Dec., 1963 (2)], Nos. 48647/63 and 48648/63. Heading H1N. [Also in Division H2] A protective relay has a winding 20 energized in an operating sense in accordance with the current in a protected circuit and a winding 19 energized in a restraining sense in accordance with the voltage of the protected circuit. A zener diode 30, or equivalent device, prevents the application of the voltage restraining signal when the voltage lies below a predetermined low value, and a zener diode 31 prevents the voltage restraining signal rising above a predetermined higher value. As shown, the relay may be of the magnetic reed type with contacts 10 within an envelope 11. The magnetic circuit of the relay includes a U-shaped member 14 having a part 15 of reduced cross-sectional area. A permanent magnet 16 is adjustable with respect to the part 15 and a metallic slug 18 may be provided.
