Abstract
484,211. Stuffing box substitutes. POOLE, R., and METROPOLITAN - VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Nov. 3, 1936, No. 29927. [Class 122 (v)] In an explosionproof enclosure for an electric motor or the like, flame propagation along the shaft is prevented by a labyrinth packing comprising intermeshing collars 6 .. 9 at least one of which is provided with radial flanges 10, the clearances between the collars being such as to permit passage of gas to the outside. The flanges may be integral with the collars or formed as separate rings or in the form of a spiral of ribbon or wire wound into a collar. The end faces of the collars may be formed with coaxial flanges. Specification 195,832, [Class 122 (v)], is referred to.
