Abstract

587,676. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. JACK & HEINTZ, Inc. May 3, 1944, No. 8372. Convention date, Dec. 23, 1942. [Class 35] An armature core and commutator are supported by fins carried by the shaft thus providing longitudinal cooling ducts and the core and commutator have tongues projecting between the fins. In the form shown a sleeve 20 has radially extending ribs 21 running the axial length of the armature core plus commutator these ribs engaging the inner periphery of the core laminae and of a sleeve carrying the commutator segments. The latter sleeve has fins extending inwards between the ribs and like the sleeve 20 may be of aluminium. The core laminae also have inwardly extending fins 26 having apertures 27 and external air is passed through these apertures and the gaps between the ribs and fans from one end of the armature to the other by a fan on the shaft or an external blower. The fins 26 on some of the core laminµ may be omitted so that the projections from the core are non-continuous as in Fig. 4.
