Abstract
598,300. Cooling motors. ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING CORPORATION. Nov. 6, 1944, No. 21701. Convention date, Nov. 6, 1943. [Class 35] In a motor pump unit with axially extending air ducts between the motor stator and a casing, these ducts and the fans are arranged so that air traverses some of the ducts in one direction and returns through the remaining ducts. In the form shown, the stator laminµ are square, thereby providing four segmental axial ducts between the core and the inner casing 28 and the inlets and outlets to the fan 62 are such that part of the air from the fan flows through two opposite ducts (50 and another 54 not visible) and part through the air-gap and axial ducts 65 embedded in the field windings to the other end of the motor. The air from ducts 50, 54 passes into an annular chamber 78 interconnecting all four segmental ducts and hence back through the other two ducts to fan 62, while the air from the interior of the machine is passed out by fan 86 into the chamber 78 and returns to fan 62 with the other returning air. Heat is extracted from the air by the passage of the fluid being pumped through the annular outer duct 26. Specifications 586,811 and 587,909, [Group XXVI], are referred to.
