Abstract
672,489. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. ALLIS-CHALMERS MANUFACTURING CO. June 23, 1950 [June 28, 1949], No. 15728/50. Class 35. In a totally enclosed machine fan blades 50 cause the internal air to enter the rotor at both ends, passing along axial ducts 31 leading into radial ducts 28 which communicate via the air gap with ducts 27 in the stator core, the air then traversing pipes 14 conveying external air and returning to the blades 50 along the passages formed by partitions 24, 27. The air in the two halves of the machine is kept separate since the central core supporting ring 12 makes a gas-tight fit with a central pack of laminµ of larger diameter than the rest, and the rotor ducts terminate short of the centre of the rotor. The casing is constructed as to be flameproof.
