195,832. Major, C. W., and Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd. Feb. 23, 1922. Casings; commutators and collecting-rings.- In an explosion-proof electric motor or the like of the type in which the collecting-rings 2 or other parts at which sparking occurs are enclosed in a casing 1 through the wall 4 of which the shaft passes, flame propagation to another part of the motor or to the exterior is prevented by the employment of a labyrinth packing with intermeshing parts for the motor shaft. The packing may comprise a collar 5 on the shaft with conical or cylindrical flanges 6, intermeshing with similar flanges 8 on the casing wall, or on a part 7 secured to the wall. The clearances are greater than usual in labyrinth packings.
