Abstract
751,671. Stuffing-box substitutes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. June 29, 1954 [July 6, 1953], No. 19071/54. Class 122(5) [Also in Groups XXXIV and XXXV] A submersible dynamo - electric machine rotor shaft seal 28 for preventing the ingress of the external media, e.g. well water, or the egress of the liquid filling, e.g. oil, of the machine, which filling is maintained at a higher pressure than that of the external media, comprises, rotating with a shaft extension 19 and abutting a shoulder 69 thereof, a metal washer 70, a resilient washer 71 and a cup-shaped washer 72; the stationary part of the seal comprises a sealing washer 73 loaded by a helical compression spring 76 which in turn is sealed by a resilient annulus 75, the whole being enclosed by cup-shaped members 63, 66, whose engaging flanges 64, 65 form a combined flange 29 which is resiliently secured between a double end flange, not shown, of the machine.
