Abstract
1,008,030. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. SUMO PUMPS Ltd. Aug. 19, 1964 [Sept. 10, 1963], No. 35716/63. Heading H2A. [Also in Division F2] A submersible electrical machine has the stator and rotor contained within a sealed casing 2 and has the output shaft 5 passing out of this casing through a pressure balancing compartment 8 sealed by shaft seals 11, 12 and flexible diaphragms 16, 17. The annular diaphragms 16, 17 are secured to end cover 6 and plate 7 respectively adjacent shaft 5, and their outer ends held, by solid spring ring 20 lodges inside cover 6, against the respective cover plates. Two identical shaft seals 11, 12 are used bearing on sealing ring 13 attached to the shaft to ensure sealing of chamber 8. The inside of diaphragm 16 is subject to the oil pressure in casing 2 through holes 21 in cover 6 and the outside of diaphragm 17 is subject to the outside pressure through holes (not shown) in plate 7.
