Abstract

518,315. Alternating-current motors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. and JACOBY, H. C. E. Aug. 22,'1938, No. 24675. [Class 35] In a rotor, especially for a synchronous squirrelcage motor, the conductors, or some of them, are so arranged that, for at least a part of their length, the portion of them furthest from the axis is in close contact with the magnetic material of the rotor, while portions nearer the axis are in contact with air or other non-magnetic material. For this purpose slots 4 may be formed in the rotor laminations, or in some of them, so that the portions of the bars nearest the axis project into the slots. The slots may be left 'empty or filled with non-magnetic materials. Modifications with bars of various sections are described. Fig.' 3 shows a construction with narrow strips 5 of magnetic material in the spaces between the bars to support the outer portion of the rotor.
