Abstract

482,005. Tobacco-cutting machines. LANGRISH, H. W., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. Jan. 4, 1937, No. 186. [Class 5 (i)] In a tobacco-leaf cutting-machine wherein the leaves are fed in a compressed mass through a mouthpiece which co-operates with knives, the mouthpiece comprises a fixed part 7 and a movable part 8 which is urged towards the part 7 but yields to accommodate variations in the thickness of the mass. The part 8 is supported by a carrier 9 which is pivoted at 10 to a link 11 movable about a fixed pivot 12 on the frame of the machine, the carrier 9 being also pivoted at 14 to a member 15 carrying a weight 17 and having a fixed pivot 16. Toggle mechanism 18 supports the weight during the setting of the machine, and is then lowered. The pivots 10, 14 move in oppositely directed arcuate paths, so that the part 8 is maintained substantially in the cutting plane. In a modification, the carrier 9 has a pivot 14 which is slidable in a longitudinal slot in the member 15, the pivot carrying a cam follower which is constrained to move in an arcuate path. The knives 20 are mounted on a carrier 21 on a rotary shaft 22. Specification 365,997 is referred to.
