Abstract

973,210. Cigarette-making machines. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. Nov. 30, 1960 [Dec. 1, 1959], No. 40783/59. Heading A2C. [Also in Division B8] In a continuous rod machine wherein the tobacco filler is formed on a pervious band 1 passing through a trough 9 by an air stream carrying tobacco particles and retained on the band by suction in the chamber 2, the guide pulley 13 for the band 1 is mounted so as to be slidable transversely of the band and pivotable about an axis at right angles to the plane of that part of the band which is in the trough 9. The tobacco is formed as described in Specification 895,733. The pulley 13 is pivoted on an arm 21 which is slidably and pivotally mounted on a bolt 17 carried by a forked arm 14 pivoted to the frame. The end of the arm 21 is divided into arms 23a, 23b, Fig. 4, which carry pivot pins 26 located in bores 27 in a sleeve 20 slidable on the bolt 17. The arm 21 carrying pulley 13 can thus pivot about the pins 25 and can slide sideways with the sleeve 20 on the bolt 17. The forked arm 14 is loaded by a spring 30 to tension the band 1. To prevent wear of the trough 9 by the band 1, tungsten carbide inserts 40 are provided along the sides of the trough.
