460,392. Cigarette-making machines. UNIVERSELLE CIGARETTENMASCHINEN-FABRIK J. C. MULLER & CO. Feb. 13, 1936, No. 4373. Convention date, Feb. 19, 1935. [Class 130] In a continuous-rod machine the tobaccofeeding apparatus 3 is disposed beneath the cigarette rod 9. The tobacco is forwarded from a hopper 10, Fig. 3, by a raking drum 11 and deposited, by a picker roller 14, which projects the heavier parts into a container 16 and the lighter parts on to a belt 17 passing beneath a magnet 18. A roller 19 throws the tobacco down a trough 20 on to a conveyer belt 21 and a belt 44, which may be arranged obliquely, tends to forward the tobacco in the direction of movement of the belt 21. The belt 21 confines the tobacco in a channel 22, Fig. 5, formed by a disc 26 between two larger rotating discs 24, 25 until it is delivered over a bridge-piece 33 to the cigarette-rod former. The tobacco in the channel 22 is compressed by mounting the disc 26 on an adjustable eccentric 30 and causing it to rotate with the discs 24, 25 by a pin 29 passing through radial slots 32. The cigarette paper is either fed through a groove 36 into the former or fed around the channel 22. In a modified form of tobacco feeding apparatus, a small raking drum is arranged over the drum 11 and picker rollers deposit two streams of tobacco on the belt 17.
