Abstract
751,014. Cutting tobacco. LEGG, Ltd., R., and SCHREIBER, P. Q. R. Nov. 10, 1954 [Nov. 10, 1953], No. 31149/53. Class 5 (1). In a rotary drum type of tobacco cutting machine with conveyers 4, 6 feeding to a mouth 8 the top 28 of the mouth is movable up or down along with its side plates 32 which are connected to a pair of parallel links 34, 36 to the side frames of the machine so that the lower face of 28 remains horizontal while it moves in an arc of the same radius as the rotary drum cutter 9, the parallel links 34, 36 not extending forward of the mouth 8. The plates 32 lie outside side walls 24 which confine the tobacco in its passage between the conveyers. The upper conveyer 6 has outer frames 52 which are also pivoted to the side plates 32 and inner frames 54 supporting the front only of the conveyer and rigidly connected to the outer frames 52 to partake of the movement of the mouthpiece top 28. The outer end of the conveyer 6 can also rock on pivoted levers 68, so that the total movement of the conveyer 6 is arcuate at one end and nearly parallel to the feed of the tobacco. Pneumatic pressure is applied to the top 28 of the mouthpiece and by inference to the front of the conveyer 6 by a ram 82 to maintain uniform pressure on the tobacco.
