Abstract

599,877. Cigarette-making machines. MOLINS. D. W., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. Sept. 24, 1945, No. 24745. [Class 130] A tobacco-feeding apparatus comprises vibrating surfaces 65, 69, 70, which receive a tobacco shower 60 and feed separated portions over their ends-e.g. down a shoot 61, 62 to a cigarette paper 64 of a continuous-rod machine. The shower is formed by a picker 50 and a vane-wheel 52 as described in Specification 520,178. As shown, the surfaces 65, 69, 70 are connected by side walls and mounted on springs 73 agitated by an eccentric 74. Their front ends overlap so that cascades of tobacco falling into the shoot do not interfere with one another. In alternative arrangements, the surfaces are each mounted on a pair of eccentrics, or they comprise endless bands which are vibrated by agitated beaters.
