785,417. Cigarette-making machines. KORBER, K. Feb. 29, 1956 [April 23, 1955], No. 6306/56. Class 130. A cutter drum 7 carrying fixed knives 6, which co-operates with a suction drum 5 to cut connector sheets 1a from a strip 1 for uniting cigarette and mouthpiece assemblages G on a grooved drum 10, is supported in a carrier body 12 which is urged by a spring 18 towards the drum 5 and is positioned by an adjustable stop 16. The strip 1 is gummed by a roller 4 and fed at a lower speed than the peripheral speeds of the drums 5, 7, 10 so that, after cutting, each separate sheet 1a is moved away from the end of the strip 1 whereby the sheets are correctly positioned for application to the assemblages G. The carrier body 12 is pivoted on a pin 13 provided with loose roller bearings 181, 18<SP>11</SP>, and spring discs 19, 191 which permit lateral adjustment of the carrier 12 so that the.knives 6 are automatically positioned parallel to the counter-cutting pads 8 on the drum 5 in addition to the pivotal adjustment of the carrier 12 by screw 16 which adjusts the cutting pressure of the knives. A brush roll 11 mounted in the carrier 12 cleans the knives 6. In a modification, the drum 7 and roll 11 are mounted in a spring-loaded slidable support frame.
