Abstract
480,156. Igniting gas burners. HORSTMANN, B. G., and HORSTMANN GEAR CO., Ltd. June 11, 1937, No. 16283. [Class 75 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIX] In means for igniting the burners of a stove &c. on opening the gas tap, the handle 2 of each gas tap 1 is secured to a cam plate 7 attached by screws 8, 9 to a sleeve 4 on the plug 3. 'The screw 9 co-operates with an arcuate slot 10 in the plate to allow the handle 2 to be turned about the pivot screw 8 through an angle of about 45 without moving the plug 3. During this movement, the arcuate edge 11 of the. plated 7 actuates a lever arm 12 to rock a shaft 13 and, at the end of the movement, the edge 11 is concentric with the plug 3, which is opened by further movement of the handle. The shaft 13 actuates through a lever 23 a spring-pressed plunger 19 in a casing 16 to open a pilot valve 18 and bridge contacts 22 to close the circuit of an electric igniter. A pilot burner, having two or more nozzles adapted to produce long flames for igniting any of the burners, may be located at the point 15. On releasing the handle, the plunger 19 is returned by its spring and causes the handle to turn backwards about the pivot screw 8 without turning the plug 3.
