Abstract

483,291. Igniting gas burners. HORSTMANN, K. J., and HORSTMANTN GEAR CO., Ltd. Oct. 14, 1936, No. 27913. [Class 75 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIX] In means for igniting a gas burner in which the gas cock is adapted to be turned against spring action beyond the fully-open position to supply gas to a pilot burner and close a switch in an electrical ignition circuit for the pilot, a disc 18, connected with the cock plug 12, is formed with a notch 20 and an elongated recess 18a adapted to be engaged by the free end of a spring arm 19, fixed to the casing 1, for retaining the cock in the closed and fully open positions respectively, the recess 18a permitting free rotation of the cock beyond the fully-open position for igniting the pilot. The switch comprises a spring contact 14 and a fixed contact 15, mounted on and located between the legs of a U-shaped bracket 7. An arm 16 on the gas cock engages the spring contact 14 when the tap is fully opened and deflects it into contact with the contact 15 to close the ignition circuit when the tap is moved beyond the fully-open position, the tap being returned to the fully-open position by the contact 14 when released. The operating handle 21 is connected to the plug 12 by a rod 22, supported in a tube 23, and is provided with a pointer 24 moving over an indicator disc 25. A dry cell 5 in the ignition circuit is held in position on a seating 4 by means of lugs 6 and spring arms 8 on the bracket 7 and is accessible through a hinged cover 2. The Provisional Specification describes also a construction in which the gas pipe extends between the arms of a U -shaped bracket carrying the contacts and the cell.
