Abstract
407,820. Lighting gas burners. RADIATION, Ltd., Thimble Mill Lane, Aston, Birming- ham, DAVIS, H. N., and TWIGG, W. R., Diamond Foundry, Luton. Feb. 25, 1933, Nos. 5836 and 18498. [Class 75 (iii).] The gas-cock a is adapted to be turned beyond the fully open position against the action of an initially stressed spring g to open a byepass c and close the circuit of a filament f for igniting the pilot-burner d. The main burner is ignited by the pilot burner d either directly or by means of one or more intermediate pilot-burners e and, on releasing the cock, the spring g returns the latter to the fully open position. As shown, the spring g is carried on the stem k of the cock within a sleeve m rotatable with the stem. One end n of the spring is engaged in a hole in the sleeve, two or more holes being provided to allow for adjusting the tension, and the other end h extends through a slot in the sleeve which allows the required extra movement of the cock after the end h has been arrested by engagement with an abutment i on the cock body b. A stop j co-operates with the body b to limit the movement of the cock in each direction. The filament f is attached to metal sockets p carried by an insulating piece q and adapted to engage metal plugs r carried by an insulator s fixed in the body b. A resilient blade contact t preferably co-operates with a tongue u on the sleeve m for closing the circuit. A hood v is provided with an aperture w for the passage of the pilot flame. The filament may be controlled by any of a plurality of cocks.
