Abstract
478,862. Centrifugal pumps. LABOUR, H. E. Feb. 16, 1937, No. 4682. Convention date, Dec. 29, 1936. [Class 110 (i)] A self-priming centrifugal pump, with an intake trap 9 and discharge separator 16 forming a chamber for retaining sufficient liquid for priming, has a single opening 43 between the impeller casing 16a and the separator 16 serving solely as discharge when the pump is supplied with liquid, but during starting serving also for the re-entry of priming liquid from the discharge. The volute 38 extends into the separator 16 to form directing channels for the re-entering streams. The volute has a cut-off surface 52 which may extend the full distance between adjacent blades. When the pump is running full, the volume of discharge prevents re-entry.
