Abstract
472,661. Centrifugal pumps. LA BOUR, H. E. March 27, 1936, No. 9209. [Class 110 (i)] During the priming of a centrifugal pump, the liquid and entrained air is discharged through a number of equidistant throats 66, 67, 68 and passes through a duct 62 to the vortex separating chamber 60. The liquid is then returned to the impeller chamber via a duct 63 and a number of equidistant throats 69, 70, 71. When the pump is primed, the return throats 69, 70, 71 act as additional discharge throats. If more fluid returns through one of the return throats than can be discharged through the next discharge throat, the excess tends to block the inflow from the next return throat. To avoid separating the entrained air from the liquid, the throats are tangential to the impeller casing. The ducts 62, 63 are parallel to one another and are separated by a wall 64. The ducts 63, 64 are clamped between members 40, 50 comprising the impeller chamber. In a modification, the throats discharge laterally into the ducts 62, 63.
