Abstract
679,246. Centrifugal pumps. VOLLAND, G. Feb. 16, 1951 [Oct. 30,1950], No. 3866/51. Class 110(i) In a self-priming centrifugal pump having an injector 7 arranged on the discharge side of the pump, the injector surrounds the impeller 1 over the whole or part of the periphery; the internal width of the injector at entry is about equal to the internal width of the impeller at outlet, and the crosssection increases towards the pressure chamber 5. When the pump is started, a circulation of water between the injector and the chamber 5 is established, as shown at 10. The air in the suction pipe of the pump is thereby entrained and expelled at 11 into the pump outlet 6. The injector is of rectangular cross-section. Its side walls 7<SP>1</SP> may be eliminated. If the pump has two stages, only one stage need have an injector. The internal width of the injector may be adjustable, so that the passage area can be reduced during priming.
