Abstract
508,897. Centrifugal pumps. NORMAN, E. J. H., and TOMPKINS, W. C. April 11, 1938, No. 10999. [Class 110 (i)] The liquid of a liquid-ring pump is cooled by passing it through an external cooler under pressure of the gas being pumped. A rotor 1 has vanes 2 -and inlet and outlet ports 6, 7. Gas, and a quantity of liquid, are delivered through 7 and the gas passes through a fixed, or adjustable, small orifice 14 into a chamber 10 and out through a hole 12 provided with a dust cap. The liquid passes down a pipe 16, through a cooler, and returns by way of a pipe 17 to the chamber 10. From the latter, the liquid passes through ports 19, 20 to the rotor chamber. The pump may be used to prime another pump and may be of the type described in Specifications 458,058 and 462,208. The chamber 10 may be in a separate tank.
