475,128. Starting; turning gear. BOSCH AKT.-GES., R. May 15; 1936, No. 13742. Convention date, May 18, 1935. [Class 7 (v)] An engine is started by firing in succession at least two cartridges, of which the first is the weaker, and allowing the gases produced to act directly on the pistons of the engine or upon the piston of a starting-motor. In one form, the cartridges are fitted in chambers on the cylinder heads, the first cartridge being fired manually and subsequent ones fired in succession by means actuated by a cam on the engine shaft. In the case of a starting-motor, Fig. 3, cartridge chambers i, k are provided on the cylinder g and the piston h is geared to the engine shaft by means of a rack and pinion. The cartridge in the chamber i is fired manually and that in the chamber k is fired later in the stroke of the piston by means of a rod m actuated by an arm n pivoted on the rack.
