Abstract

389,981. Fuel-injection pumps. EVANS, A. F., 2, Castleton Mansions, Castelnau, Barnes, London. March 9, 1932, No. 7048. [Class 102 (i).] In a fuel-injection pump of the type described in Specification 298,257, [Class 102 (i), Pumps &c.], in which a cylinder 6 and plunger 8 reciprocate oppositely, a number of pump units are employed and the cylinders and plungers are operated directly by cranks or eccentrics on the shaft 5. Each cylinder is operated by two eccentrics 18 at the sides of the plungeroperating eccentric 14. The latter may be weighted to balance the weight of the cylinder, or, alternatively, the cylinder eccentrics may be of aluminium. The cylinder gudgeon-pin 21 is perforated for the passage of the plunger. In order to adjust the timing an axiallyadjustable rod 37 has axial splines 38 engaging the interior of the shaft 5 and helical splines 36 engaging the interior of the driving shaft 32. A wall 2 separates the actuating chamber from the suction chamber 3. Each pump has an axially-adjustable or rotatable sleeve 25 controlling the suction ports 23 and the relief ports 24.
