Abstract

Eccentric - and - lever-actuated pumps ; stroke, varying.- The fuel admission valves of an internal combustion engine are arranged around a central starting valve in the cylinder cover midway between the axis and the circumference and in double acting engines around the piston rod at the crank shaft end. All the valves in one cover may be supplied by one pump, or each valve may have its own pump. The suction strokes of the pumps are effected by springs h<3> and controlled in length by cams j<1> and levers J, Fig. 2. Groups of pumps may be worked by a single eccentric L Fig. 3 through levers K having arms of different lengths, by which either the lengths or the duration of the delivery strokes may be made to differ. A pump of short stroke may have a plunger of a correspondingly larger diameter. By these arrangements the pumps may be cut out in succession they may start their delivery strokes at different times and a pump that starts earlier than the others may deliver a light fuel to start combustion.
