Abstract
474,703. Insulators. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 9, 1936, No. 30534. Convention date, Nov. 9, 1935. [Class 36] A lead-in insulator of the condenser type comprises concentric layers of impregnated fibrous material such as b<1>, b2, b3, c<1>, c<2>, c<3>, between which are disposed wound layers of insulated wire d<1>, d2, d<3>, some of the fibrous layers being turned outwardly at their ends to form flanges e<2>, e<3>, which project radially beyond the wire layers to prevent creeping discharges from the ends of the wire layers. The flanges may be formed by making circumferentially spaced longitudinal cuts in the ends of the fibrous layers and bending the cut portions outwards. The fibrous layers are preferably of paper, as is also the insulation of the wire. The ends of the layers b<1> and c<1> are bound together by threads g. The entire structure may be enclosed in an oil- or compound-filled shell of ceramic material or compressed paper.
