Abstract

Insulation.-The connection to the end of the secondary of a. magneto is made by a wire l passing between tongues j projecting from sheets g of insulating material such as oiled silk, laid against the inner face of the pole-pieces a. An opening to enclose the core is cut in the sheets g, which are passed over the core by a slit k. The tongues j are then held down by taking a few turns of the secondarv over them and the winding proceeds in the usual way, the layers being separated by wrappings n of fabric with overlaps o lying against the pole pieces. The wire l may be replaced by a strip of metal foil or a number of fine wires so that the tongues j may lie more flatly. When several sheets g are employed the tongues on the upper sheets may be narrower than those on the lower so that the winding and insulation may lie more evenly.
