Transformers.-The windings of electric transformers such as those used in amplifiers for wireless reception comprise conducting turns 1a - - 1d, preferably of enamelled copper wire, wound simultaneously with turns of cotton or silk tliread so arranged as to produce layers of insulation 2, 2a which increase in thickness in the. direction in which the potential difference between superimposed conducting turns increases. This arrangement is obtained in the winding operation by reciprocating the winding arm feeding the cotton or silk at a greater velocity than that applied to the winding arm feeding the conductor. On completion of the winding, the coil is dried and dipped in a paraffin bath prior to covering.
