Abstract
627,507. Induction heating. TAMA, M. Sept. 6, 1946, No. 26803. Convention date, Sept. 29, 1945. [Class 39(iii)] A multilayer inductor coil for induction furnaces, of approximately rectangular cross-section with an interlayer cooling duct is supported by members which extend along the inside of the corners of the coil in an axial direction, and has spacers extending in the same direction in the corners of the cooling duct, projecting ends of the members and spacers being joined together. The coil 1 comprises two layers of copper wire of rectangular cross-section wound round arcuate supporting members 3, arcuate spacing members 4 which create the air duct 2 and two outer layers of wire. The wire is insulated before or during winding with inorganic material such as glass tape. The supports 3 and spacers 4 are of non-magnetic metal such as copper, bronze, sustenitic steels, and the spacers may have an insulating wrapping 7 such as glass tape. The coil is wound five wires at a time, the interlayer connections 11-15 being made separately and successively round the coil. Supports 3 and spacers 4 project from the coil ends and are connected by pieces 5, and connecting pieces between the ends of support 3 may provide means for mounting the coil on a core.
