Abstract
244,807. Ferranti, S. Z. de. July 25, 1924. Transformers.-The windings of transformers for wireless apparatus are made of an enamelled wire alloy such as silicon-bronze having a high elastic limit. This obviates the wire stretching, while being wound under tension, to such a degree that parts thereof become bared of insulation, and allows of the use of a finer wire with consequent reduction of the self capacity of the coil and of the eddy current losses. A failure would show during winding by breakage of the wire instead of stretching and consequent insulation failure. A non-magnetic iron alloy containing iron, nickel, chromium, tungsten, and carbon in the approximate proportions of 60.5, 25.99, 11.6, 1.6, and 0.36 may be used for the wire.
