Abstract
213,700. Burnet, W. D. Jan. 15, 1923. Tranformers. - Transformer windings are made by traversing the wire F during winding from side to side of the coil at an angle to the axis. successive turns in each layer, such as F<4>, F<5>, Fig. 4, being laid parallel and in close proximity to each other, while the wires in each successive laver cross those in the layer below at an angle. The invention is particularly applicable to intervalve and telephone transformers, and the transformers may be used with or without an iron core. The core, when used, is built up of E-shaped stampings having limbs A<1> . . A<3> of different lengths, the stampings being assembled, as shown in Fig. II., so as to leave an air gap A<4> in the middle limb which carries the windings. The windings are separated from each other and from the core by mica cylinders.
