Abstract
474,339. Grinding - wheels. NORTON GRINDING WHEEL CO., Ltd. March 5, 1937, No. 6558. Convention date, March 21, 1936. [Class 60] In a grinding-wheel comprising an abrasive disc 10 mounted on a backing plate 11 of metal &c., the disc is secured to the plate by a cement comprising a rubber compound layer 12 united either to the abrasive disc or to the plate, or to both by a layer of sodium silicate 13a, 13b. The sodium silicate is applied in a viscous condition and the rubber is applied in unvulcanized condition, the whole assembly then being subjected to heat and pressure, whereby the rubber is vulcanized and the sodium silicate is hardened ; the surface of the plate is cleaned and sandblasted before application of the cement. The rubber compound may be hard or soft, and may contain from 40 to 70 per cent of zinc oxide.
